Expiration: 1100 AM EST SAT FEB 23 2019
The National Weather Service in BLACKSBURG has issued a * Flood Advisory for Minor Flooding in Poor Drainage Areas for... Alleghany County in northwestern North Carolina... Watauga County in northwestern North Carolina... Ashe County in northwestern North Carolina... Smyth County in southwestern Virginia... Tazewell County in southwestern Virginia... Bland County in southwestern Virginia... Wythe County in southwestern Virginia... Carroll County in southwestern Virginia... Grayson County in southwestern Virginia... * Until 1100 AM EST Saturday * At 456 AM EST, Doppler radar indicated a large and near continuous area of mostly moderate rainfall moving into the listed counties from eastern Tennessee. This rainfall area extends back as far west and southwest as western Tennessee and northern Mississippi. Thus, this rainfall is expected to continue for several hours. * While rainfall amounts are mostly around 1/2 inch per hour, the ground across this region is completely saturated from recent rainfall and snow melt. Additional rainfall will quickly create excessive runoff water into area creeks and streams. Many creeks and streams are already at or above bankful in the area and the additional rainfall will result in flooding. In addition, flooding of low-lying, flood prone, and poor drainage areas is likely through the morning as the rain continues. * Some locations that will experience flooding include... Boone... Wytheville... Galax... Bland... and Marion. Additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is likely across this region during the next 6 to 8 hours. Flooding is likely. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become unstable and unsafe. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. When it is safe to do so, please send your reports of flooding, including mudslides or flooded roads, to the National Weather Service by calling toll free at 1...8 6 6...2 1 5...4 3 2 4. Reports and pictures can also be shared on the National Weather Service Blacksburg Facebook page and on Twitter. && LAT...LON 3634 8171 3664 8161 3715 8190 3734 8136 3723 8123 3730 8098 3719 8087 3703 8089 3688 8074 3692 8062 3667 8047 3666 8059 3656 8062 3656 8091 3637 8099 3643 8117 3637 8136 3612 8154 3611 8181 3629 8192
