...Small Hail Possible this Afternoon across southwest Virginia and Northern Tennessee... ...A Wintry Mix across the Highest Elevations of east Tennessee and southwest Virginia... A cold front will move across the Tennessee Valley and southern Appalachians today producing periods of showers tapering off Tonight. The greatest coverage of showers will generally be along and north of interstate 40. Isolated thunder is also possible. Due to the low freezing level, some of the stronger showers may produce some pea size hail this afternoon and early evening. Strong and gusty winds up to 30 mph is expected. Across the highest elevations the rain will mix with or change to snow. Light snow accumulations are expected, mainly at elevations above 4000 feet. The Smoky and Roane Mountains could receive between 1 and 2 inches over the highest terrain. Highway 441 across the Smoky Mountains may become snow and ice covered late today and overnight.
